Zero visibility in parts of Batangas, Cavite, Laguna due to Taal vog – Phivolcs

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 22) – Several towns and cities in Batangas, Cavite, Laguna have experienced zero visibility due to volcanic smog (vog) from Taal Volcano, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Friday.

\”Batay po sa monitoring ng OCD Calabarzon, mayroon na po silang ni-report na several municipalities and cities sa may Batangas at Cavite at Laguna,\” Phivolcs Volcano Monitoring and Eruption Prediction Division chief Ma. Antonia Bornas said in her interview on CNN Philippines’ Newsroom Ngayon.
[Translation: Based on the OCD Calabarzon monitoring, there are reported [zero visibility in] several municipalities and cities in Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna.]

Meanwhile, Bornas said that the smog in Metro Manila was a result of accumulated pollution.

“Ang pagkakaiba lamang po sa Metro Manila ang pollutants ay galing sa vehicular and industrial sources. At dito po sa Taal region, galing po ito sa volcanic source,” she added

[Translation: The difference of Metro Manila is the pollutants are coming from vehicular and industrial sources. While here in Taal region, it is from a volcanic source.]
Earlier this day, state volcanologists confirmed the smog over Metro Manila was not from Taal Volcano’s emissions but cautioned the public to wear masks and avoid the outdoors.
