US senator, embassy discuss possibility of sending Americans to PH nursing schools – Palace

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 8) — The United States is considering sending its students to nursing schools in the Philippines amid the shortage of programs and residency slots there, Malacañang said on Tuesday, citing a US lawmaker.

The Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM) said US Senator Tammy Duckworth shared that she discussed the possibility with the US Embassy in Manila.

The lawmaker made the disclosure when she met with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during a courtesy call at Malacañan Palace.

“Noting the number of Filipino nurses in the US and the quality of service they provide, Senator Duckworth opens about her talk with the US Embassy in the Philippines about the possibility of sending American students to nursing schools in the country,” RTVM said, as it uploaded a short clip of Duckworth’s meeting with Marcos.

The Philippines is also facing its own set of problems regarding the nursing industry, including the exodus of Filipino workers due to low wages in the country.
