
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 7) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. welcomed the new chief of the Philippine Army in a ceremony in Taguig Monday, and urged him to further engage with foreign counterparts in a bid to enhance the organization’s capabilities.
“We challenge you to lead and boost your institution’s engagement with our foreign counterparts,” Marcos told LtGen. Roy Galido during his brief speech at Fort Andres Bonifacio.
“I urge the entirety of our army to enhance your interoperability and communications as well as to learn best practices through joint training and exercises which we intend to further expand,” the president added.
Galido takes on the army chief role, succeeding Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., who was promoted to chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Galido becomes the 66th army commanding officer. He was previously the chief of the Western Mindanao Command.
Marcos added he looks forward to hearing Galido’s plans to transform the Philippine Army into the source of “security and peace and pride.In his speech at the ceremony, Galido said “discipline is the bedrock of trust,” adding it is what determines an excellent public servant and is what will earn the public’s confidence.Galido also said it was time to empower soldiers for them to develop skills useful even after their service.
