
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 24) — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake shook Oriental Mindoro early Thursday morning, state seismologists reported.
In an advisory, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor struck at 1:38 a.m. 12 kilometers north of Bansud, and had a depth of one kilometer.
Phivolcs earlier reported the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.3 but downgraded it later. The agency also warned that damage and aftershocks are expected.
The following earthquake intensities were recorded in these areas:
Intensity 4 (moderately strong) – Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro
Intensity 3 (weak vibrations) – Calapan, Pinamalayan, and Roxas in Oriental Mindoro
