LTO: 60-day deadline to claim license plates meant for officials, dealers

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 2) — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Wednesday clarified that the 60-day deadline it imposed to get unclaimed license plates is meant for agency officials and car dealers–not owners.

\”It is actually a directive to all our Regional Directors, District Chiefs, Offices and Extension Offices to find the best ways to properly and efficiently distribute the unclaimed license plates within 60 days,\” LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza said in a statement.

The order covers car and motorcycle dealers, he added.

Vigor explained that the order is \”not intended for the motor vehicle owners because it’s the LTO’s mandate to issue plates.\”

Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista earlier directed the LTO to start the distribution of license plates so vehicle owners can claim these. Mendoza said the agency is targeting to finish the distribution by September.
