MWSS: Maynilad customers may see up to 9-hr daily water interruption starting July 12

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 7) – Around 591,000 customers of Maynilad Water Services Inc. may experience up to nine hours of nightly water service interruptions starting July 12 due to the decreasing water level of Angat Dam, the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System said.

\”We expect there will be affected 591,000 water service connections within the Maynilad area,\” Patrick Dizon, MWSS Division Manager, told CNN Philippines.

Basically, ‘yung areas na matataas like Quezon City, parts of east or west Fairview and ‘yung parts din ng Manila, pero expect na lang that we will be issuing ‘yung exact na locations,” he added.

Dizon also said water service interruptions may run from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The estimated number of customers that will be affected is lower than the initially computed number last April 2023, which was 632,000 customers, he added.

Meron na po tayong mga additional volume of water na na-recover natin and losses na deep wells na pwede natin i-operate and meron din po tayong cross-border flow from Manila Water,” Dizon said.

Should the water level of Angat Dam continues to dip below 180 meters, the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) said it will set the water allocation for Metro Manila to 48 cubic meters per second (CMS).

The water allocation for Metro Manila earlier set for July was 50 cms.

Dizon said Maynilad is also eyeing to lessen the water pressure to 16 pounds per square inch.
