Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 5) — Valenzuela Mayor Wes Gatchalian on Wednesday said he has lined up programs to achieve his goal of transforming the city from being an industrial center to a livable city.
Speaking to CNN Philippines’ The Source, Gatchalian said Valenzuela City is currently home to 15,000 factories, warehouses, and commercial establishments.
“I’m changing the direction of Valenzuela,\” he declared. \”We used to be known as an industrial city, home of the factories. Now, I’m changing it to a livable city.”
One of the programs Gatchalian has for the city is the renovation of the Valenzuela City Emergency Hospital and the construction of its annex for ₱70 million.
He said it will help expand the facility’s 50-bed capacity.
The mayor said the construction of the Valenzuela City East Medical and Wellness Center, which will cater mostly to outpatient care, has also started.
Gatchalian said the project will be funded by a mix of loans and local funds. The management will be under a public-private partnership, he noted.
