Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 21) — The Philippines will send 395 athletes to the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in September, Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Bambol Tolentino announced Friday.
“The number reached 400 but was later trimmed down after a series of deliberations by the POC and the national sports associations,” Tolentino said in a statement.
The POC chief said the athletes will compete in 37 of the 40 sports in the quadrennial event.
The Philippines will try to surpass the four gold medals it won — courtesy of weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, skateboarder Margielyn Didal, and golfers Yuka Saso, Bianca Pagdanganan, and Lois Kaye Go — along with two silver and 15 bronze medals in the last edition held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
