Danao City eyes anti-cutting classes ordinance

Cebu City (CNN Philippines, June 15) — The City of Danao in Cebu wants to make cutting classes illegal.

Local officials said an ordinance covering students in elementary, junior high, and senior high school is already in the works.

They warned of penalties for violators.

\”Aduna sab nagpaabot nga penalties ug recommendation for rescue and counseling. Ang tibuok kopya niining ordinansa ipahibaw unya sa publiko kung maaprobahan na kini,\” the city government said on its Facebook page.

The city’s public information office noted that students who cut classes are often found in internet cafes, billiard halls, drinking joints, or loitering in malls.

The proposal is still in the draft stage. A public consultation was held Wednesday at the Danao Civic Center in Barangay Poblacion – attended by representatives from different public and private schools, barangay officials, and mall management.
