Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 7) — The De La Salle University Lady Spikers showed nerves of steel in a comeback win over the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs, 18-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 15-13, to take Game 1 of the UAAP Season 85 best-of-three women’s volleyball finals Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Rookie sensation Angel Canino stepped up when it mattered most for the Lady Spikers with 21 big points.
The Lady Bulldogs dictated the early tempo of the match as they grabbed the opening set.
La Salle was able to bounce back in the second set through its gritty defense.
But NU’s composure was the difference in the third set as the Lady Spikers fell short in taking the lead.
The determined Lady Spikers came out firing in the fourth set to level the contest at two sets apiece.
In the end, La Salle had enough weapons to seal the victory and move closer to its 12th title.
