QC gov’t allows shorter class hours as extreme heat bites

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 5) — The Quezon City government on Friday allowed public schools to cut class hours amid the extreme heat.

“Our utmost priority will always be the welfare of our children. Since the summer heat is too much to bear, especially in classrooms, we welcome the implementation of blended, modular, or shortened class periods for public schools,” said Mayor Joy Belmonte in a statement.

The decision is in line with the Department of Education’s order endorsing modular distance learning during natural disasters, power interruptions, and other calamities.

Quezon City public schools can also carry out other learning setup.

The shorter class period is from 6 a.m. to 10:30 am for the morning batch of students and 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for the afternoon batch.

Ten elementary and eight high schools have carried out shorter class hours.
