New COVID-19 cases in PH rise to 12,414 on May 8-14

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 15) — The country saw a total of 12,414 new COVID-19 cases during the week of May 8 to 14, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Monday.

With an average of 1,773 cases per day, the latest tally reflected a 31% increase from the previous week.

Among the new infections, 53 were in severe and critical condition.

The DOH said 437 critical patients are currently in hospitals, representing 8.8% of the total COVID-19 admissions in the country.Of the 2,093 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for patients with COVID-19, 394 or 18.8% are occupied. Meanwhile, 3,791 or 21.7% of the 17,454 non-ICU COVID-19 beds are currently in use.No new deaths due to COVID-19 were verified from May 1 to 14.According to the DOH, more than 78 million individuals, or 100.44% of the target population have been vaccinated against COVID-19 while 23 million have already received their booster shots.

On the other hand, 7.1 million senior citizens, or 82.16% of the target A2 population have already received their primary vaccine series.
