Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 5) — Interior Sec. Benhur Abalos said he will recommend one particular officer who can replace Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr. who retires this month
“If I’m going to be asked kung sino ang gusto ko (who I want), I’ve got someone in mind,” Abalos told CNN Philippines’ The Source on Wednesday without naming the person.
The interior and local government secretary usually submits a list of recommendations for PNP chief to the president.
Abalos listed three qualities for the next PNP chief as the government intensifies efforts against illegal drugs.
He said the PNP leader should be brave, should not be dazzled by money, and should have good police work.
Azurin will retire this April. The change-of-command ceremony and retirement honors were set for April 24, which coincides with his birthday.
