Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 13) — A police officer in Cotabato was sacked and arrested on Wednesday after a video made the rounds online where he was caught beating up his partner.
The embattled cop was identified as Police Corporal Louie Jay Lumancas, 30, of the Magpet Municipal Police Station.
According to a statement by the Police Regional Office 12, Lumancas hurt his partner after the latter confronted him for concealing his marital status.
Lumancas is now under custody of Kidapawan City Police Station and will be brought to Cotabato Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceeding.
The Cotabato Police Provincial Office said criminal and administrative complaints were filed against the cop.
On the other hand, the victim is now in stable condition.
\”Nasa recovering stage na yung victim at stable naman po, at tuloy na tuloy na po yung pag-file niya ng kaso,” said Cotabato Police public information officer PCpt. April Rose Soria in an interview with CNN Philippines’ Balitaan.
[Translation: The victim is now on recovering stage and she is stable. She will also file charges against the suspect.]
\”Malaking time pa po ‘yung ire-recover niya based sa seriousness ng injury na natamo niya.”
[Translation: It will take more time for her to fully recover based on the seriousness of the injury she sustained.]
For its part, the regional police office warned all police officers who violate Republic Act No. 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.
