Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 30) — Passengers with flights from April 16 onwards should make sure to check which terminal they will be departing from as the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is set to implement airline reassignments.

The MIAA earlier announced that some airlines will be moved from one terminal to another as it continues its Schedule and Terminal Assignment Rationalization Program at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

“It’s like a puzzle piece when you move these airlines around,” MIAA Assistant General Manager Bryan Co told CNN Philippines’ The Source on Thursday.

Co said the main goal is to turn Terminal 2 into an all-domestic hub

Terminal 2 was a known hub for international flights of Philippine Airlines (PAL).

However, it was not designed for such that is why passengers usually experience long queues upon entering the terminal, Co noted.

To address this, PAL flights bound for Singapore, Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, and Phnom Penh will be transferred from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 starting April 16, he said.

Last December, MIAA already moved to Terminal 1 all airlines headed to the United States, Guam, Doha, and Bali.

Through the rationalization program, Terminal 2’s capacity will be increased since makeshift posts for immigration and customs officers will be removed, Co said.

“We need to also make space in Terminal 1,\” he added. \”That’s why we have certain airlines that will be moving from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 because Terminal 3 has the most space… it actually accommodates 50% of our total traffic on a daily basis.\”
