Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 6) — At least two wanted Japanese nationals currently in Philippine custody are set to be deported on Tuesday, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
‘
DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla told reporters on Monday that this would be the “worst case scenario” — with authorities still working on sending back all fugitives as soon as possible.
‘
“Two are sure to be deported tomorrow, but hopefully, we can deport everyone by tomorrow,” Remulla said.
‘
The Philippine government earlier vowed to expedite the process of deporting four Japanese nationals allegedly linked to a robbery ring in the East Asian nation.
‘
The list includes supposed mastermind alias “Luffy” — who, according to Japan media, had been sending instructions through a smartphone from a detention center in Manila.

Remulla said the government will “change plans” if things do not push through. He added that escorts from Japan are also expected to arrive within the day.
