Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 3) — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will allow 100,000 vehicles registered under Grab to get franchises in a bid to meet public demand for transport network vehicle service (TNVS).
‘
This was after the ride-hailing company said it made an “investment pledge” to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday that could result in the creation of 500,000 jobs.

“500,000 new jobs with the creation of 100,000 motor vehicles both in 4-wheeled and the motorcycle taxi,” LTFRB chairman Teofilo Guadiz III said on Friday.
‘
“But 100,000 is the initial, hindi naman natin bibiglain lahat ‘yan [we will not do it all at once] to prevent saturation in the market,” he added.
‘
Guadiz explained the agency could increase the number of vehicles in three months until it matches the needs of commuters.
‘
He also said the LTFRB is trying to give franchises to motor vehicles in other cities like Bacolod, Iloilo, Cebu, and Davao.
‘
Grab is also looking for a way to generate employment in Davao, Cebu, and Iloilo, according to Malacañang.
‘
The LTFRB will release two memorandum circulars detailing guidelines and qualifications for TNVS drivers, which will include a 15-hour seminar on road safety, Guadiz said.
‘
Motorcycle taxis have been under pilot testing since 2019 as authorities study the safety of the service.
