MMDA to probe Stephen Speaks alleged ‘bribery’ incident; band apologizes

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 18) — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will investigate an incident involving American pop rock group Stephen Speaks, after a road enforcer was allegedly bribed to clear the band of a traffic violation.

In a statement on Saturday, the MMDA said it will check if the traffic enforcer belongs to its ranks.

\”The agency will coordinate with [the] Land Transportation Office to look further into the possible suspension of licenses of those involved, especially those who escaped apprehension because of influence,\” it added.

In a Facebook post, Stephen Speaks – who is currently touring the Philippines – recounted how their Transportation Network Vehicle Service driver \”got pulled over in Manila for running a red light.\”

\”Tour crew bribed him with a selfie [t]o let us go. He said he sings Passenger Seat at the karaoke bar,\” the band wrote, referring to one of its hit songs.
