UAAP: UST ends NU’s seven-year reign in women’s basketball

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 6) — The University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigresses ended the National University Lady Bulldogs’ seven-year reign in UAAP women’s basketball with a comeback 71-69 victory in Game 3 of the Season 86 finals Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Reynalyn Ferrer showed the way for the Growling Tigresses, who snapped a 17-year title drought, with 19 points and 14 rebounds.

The Lady Bulldogs looked unstoppable early in the contest, establishing a 15-point edge.

But the gritty UST side slowly mounted a comeback, highlighted by a fastbreak Angelina Villasin lay-up at the dying seconds of the match to seal the win.
Kent Pastrana added 16 points and three rebounds, while Villasin finished with 12 points and four rebounds for the Growling Tigresses.
This is UST’s third title in the Final Four era and 12th championship overall in women’s basketball.
