DTI seizes over 1k illegal fireworks in Bulacan

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 22)—The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) confiscated 1,543 illegal fireworks products from four retail stores in Bocaue, Bulacan on Thursday.

The agency said it issued notices of violations to the four firms for selling fireworks not covered by the Philippine Standard (PS) license and for using an improper PS mark.

The agency explained that while the seized fireworks have a PS mark, these were not included in the list of fireworks allowed to be manufactured and sold in the country. The violators were given 48 hours to explain their non-compliance with the law.

\”As of 13 December 2023, there are 15 local brand names and their corresponding manufacturers listed with PS-license, including 4Sure Fireworks, A. Santiago Fireworks, Andy’s Fireworks, Double L, Dragon Fireworks, Diamond, LF Fireworks, LLF, Maribel Sta. Ana Fireworks, Nation, Pegasus, Phoenix, Star Light, Yangco Fireworks, and JPL Fireworks,\” the agency said.

DTI Assistant Secretary Amanda Marie Nograles reminded buyers to verify the product labels on pyrotechnics, which should include a PS mark with a valid license number.

Meanwhile in a separate statement Friday, the Department of Health (DOH) recorded four cases of firecracker-related injuries involving children six to 13 years of age.

The health department encouraged the public, companies, and government agencies to help in the campaign against illegal firecrackers.

\”Law enforcement and traders play a pivotal role in curbing these incidents by cracking down on illegal fireworks. Local governments and barangay leaders can contribute by organizing controlled fireworks displays, ensuring a joyful yet safe celebration for all. Parents, too, are crucial guardians in this mission. Supervise your children and set the right example for a Merry and Safe Christmas,\” it said.
