
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 22)— The state weather bureau said Friday that it will be a rainy Christmas weekend in some parts of the country, forecasting a “significant amount of rains” brought by the northeast monsoon and the shear line.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 11 a.m. weather advisory that Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Quirino, and Camarines Norte will have 50-100 millimeter (mm) of heavy rains on Friday.
Meanwhile, mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and the northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands will be soaked by downpours measuring 100-200 mm.
On Saturday, 50-100 mm rains will be dumped on mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and the northern portion of Quezon including the Polillo Islands, the weather bureau added.
PAGASA also noted that on Dec. 24, Christmas Eve, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Quirino, Isabela, and Aurora will have 100-200 mm of heavy rains.
\”Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps,\” it said.
The weather bureau advised the public to monitor official rainfall warnings especially those in highly susceptible areas.
