DILG eyes forming committees to assess police’s efforts in eliminating illegal drugs

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 15) – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Friday said it is eyeing to form committees that will report on the illegal drug situation in their area, a move to check if the police are fulfilling their job of getting rid of prohibited substances.

“We’re thinking of creating that composition on the ground, parang validation committee,” Abalos told reporters, adding that it will be composed of civilians, including the religious sector and businessmen.

“We will validate this [their report] with the Napolcom (National Police Commission) and then, we will give the chief of police a chance to say kung totoo ba, at kung toto man ito, we will make sure the chief of police ay mapalitan,” Abalos said.

[Translation: We will validate this with the Napolcom and then, we will give the chief of police a chance to say if this is true, and if this is indeed true, we will make sure to replace the chief of police.]

This move is also for the DILG to check the veracity of illegal drug cases being reported in a certain area, Abalos said.

1-Rider party-list Rep. Bonifacio Bosita previously revealed that there was a requirement for police officers, especially ranking cops, to conduct a minimum of drug busts per week.
