UAAP Finals: UP blows out La Salle to move closer to reclaiming title

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 29) — The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons drew first blood against the De La Salle University Green Archers, 97-67, in the best-of-three finals of UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Harold Alarcon stepped up for the Fighting Maroons in the series opener, tallying 21 points alongside two rebounds and two assists.

After a tight first quarter, UP pulled away in the second frame courtesy of its outside shooting.

The Green Archers struggled throughout the contest and a string of turnovers hurt their comeback cause while the Fighting Maroons relentlessly attacked at every opporunity.

UP’s victory is the biggest winning margin in UAAP finals history in the Final Four era.

Francis Lopez chipped in 15 points and 11 rebounds, while JD Cagulangan added 13 points and three assists for UP.

Michael Phillips finished with 19 markers and nine boards for La Salle.
