Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 15) —The Land Bank of the Philippines (Landbank) on Wednesday said it has disbursed ₱1.1 billion worth of fuel subsidy to 190,130 public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators as of Nov. 9.
Landbank said it aims to distribute fuel subsidies to 1.36 million drivers and operators of jeepneys and buses, taxis, and transportation network vehicle services (TNVS), and other qualified beneficiaries.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is currently submitting lists of qualified beneficiaries to Landbank, which will then be disbursed to beneficiaries’ accounts.
With the Fuel Subsidy Program of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and LTFRB, the already modernized PUVs beneficiaries are set to receive ₱10,000 each while traditional drivers and operators are set to receive ₱6,500.
“Landbank is one with the National Government in extending timely and responsive assistance to the local transport sector. Rest assured that we are ramping up the delivery of fuel subsidy to support PUV drivers and operators nationwide,” Landbank president and CEO Lynette Ortiz said in a statement.
On the same day, transport group Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON) announced that it will hold a nationwide strike next week to protest the Dec. 31 franchise consolidation deadline of the government’s PUV modernization program.
