Oriental Mindoro detects first cases of ASF

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 9) —  Authorities in Oriental Mindoro reported the province’s first cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) which were detected in Roxas town.

\”Makalipas ang mahabang panahon, at sa kabila ng ating lubhang pag-iingat, nakumpirma ngayong araw na ito ang kauna-unahang kaso ng ASF sa ating lalawigan. Ito ay nagmula sa mga Barangay ng Danggay at Bagumbayan sa Bayan ng Roxas,\” Governor Humerlito \”Bonz\” Dolor said on Monday.

[Translation: After a long time, and even with our strict precautions, we confirm today the first case of ASF in our area. This was found in Barangay Danggay and Bagumbayan in the town of Roxas.]

He added that they are testing five other samples from different barangays in Roxas and Mansalay town.

He said he will be signing an Executive Order to implement ASF preventive actions. He announced that selling pork in Banggay Port and Roxas Port will be prohibited.

\”Samantalang nakatakda nating hilingin sa Sangguniang Panlalawigan na ideklara na nasa ilalim ng State of Calamity ang mga Bayan ng Roxas at Mansalay upang mas mabilis na magawa ang mga karampatang hakbang.

[Translation: In the meantime, we are hoping that our provincial council will declare a State of Calamity in the towns of Roxas and Mansalay so that we can quickly implement appropriate measures.]

On Oct. 3, the Public Information Office of Romblon confirmed over 500 ASF cases in the town.

The Office of the Municipal Agriculturist in Romblon released EO No. 4-2023, banning the entry of live pigs and pork by-products as a measure to control the reported deaths of hogs in the locality.

Last Oct. 1, the town of Bangar, La Union also confirmed ASF cases in nearby municipalities of San Juan and San Gabirel, and extended the implementation of preventive measures for a whole month.
