5 teachers honored with Gintong Parangal award

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 7) – Five teachers, who showed “extraordinary hard work and discipline” through their years of service, were honored with the Ambassador Antonio Cabangon Jr. “Gintong Parangal Para sa Edukasyon “Guro” award.

Feted were Marybeth Arcenas from Sultan Kudarat, Michael Armentia from Quezon City, Anna-Liza Jimenez from Siquijor, Moises Lopez III from La Union and Michael Malvar from Ilocos Norte.

The recognition was given on Tuesday by Fortune Life, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Marylindbert International, ahead of the celebration of World Teachers’ Day.

“The award that we’ve given has been classified as a national award,” said Evelyn Carada, consulting actuary of Fortune Life. ”May effect ‘yan not only in prestige, pero meron siyang effect sa salary and promotion (It has an effect not only in prestige but also in salary and promotion).”

According to DepEd, Guro award recognizes teachers, principals, and supervisors for their commitment to service in line with the “values of hard work and discipline” advocacy of Fortune Life and its partners.

Five superintendents from the DepEd were also honored with the “Pamumuno” (leadership) award.

They are Ruth Estacio from Sarangani, Dennis Masangcay from Tanauan City in Batangas, Joel Pelenio from Cabadbaran City in Agusan del Norte, Cynthia Tablang from Alaminos City in Pangasinan and Jordan Solatario from Romblon.

“The influence and inspiration that we give to our co-workers are what we need so that everybody will be moving in one direction to really achieve the ground goals of DepEd and that include access, quality, relevant and liberating education for all,” said Estacio.

Former Education Secretary Leonor Briones was among the guests of honor at the event.
