Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 27) – The Office of the Ombudsman has junked the murder and grave misconduct complaints against Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla and Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director-General Gregorio Catapang filed by former Bucor chief Gerald Bantag.
The Ombudsman dismissed the complaints for lack of probable cause and substantial evidence, in documents shown to CNN Philippines on Friday.
Bantag accused Remulla of masterminding the killing of radio broadcaster Percy Lapid in October last year.
He also alleged that Remulla was responsible for the death of supposed middleman Jun Villamor.
Catapang was included in Bantag’s complaint for allowing inmates to be transferred from New Bilibid Prison to the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation.
Bantag alleged that Remulla had a motive to order the death of Lapid after the broadcaster criticized the secretary in an episode of his show which aired days before he was shot to death.
