DPWH allots ₱180M to repair ‘sinking’ Iloilo flyover

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 10) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Tuesday said it has allotted ₱180 million for the rectification of the “sinking” Iloilo flyover.

\”There is one in Iloilo that we’re trying to…Sinking flyover…We have done a reassessment on the structural integrity of the bridge, we will have to institute rectification,\” DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said during the Senate deliberation on its proposed 2024 budget.

“We have included some funds in the 2024 budget to implement this… For 2024, we have included, I think about ₱180 million,” he said.

Bonoan said the location has problems with its geological formation.

He said the geological investigation missed some \”soft strata’ in one part of the flyover’s structure.

\”We have some plans on the rectification of that bridge on that flyover… it is going to be confined in three segments of the structure, we’ll have to do some of the foundations, redo some of the foundation,\” Bonoan said. \”And of course, rework on the substructure for the street segments.\”

Senator JV Ejercito then asked who will shoulder the repair as it will double the costs.

Bonoan said it is currently investigating to determine who is at fault with the sinking flyover project.
