Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 26) — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Thursday said it has prohibited the employer of the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) slain in Kuwait from hiring for other Filipino workers.
‘
“We imposed a preventive suspension on the employer of OFW Jullebee Ranara because we found out that there is a ground for the imposition of a disciplinary action in relation to the administrative case filed against the employer,” DMW Undersecretary Bernard Olalia told CNN Philippines’ The Source.
‘
The burnt body of the 35-year-old domestic helper was found in a desert on Sunday evening according to DMW.
‘
The suspect, reported to be the 17-year-old son of Ranara’s employer, is currently under police custody.
‘
Ranara’s remains will be repatriated to the Philippines on Friday night, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Thursday.
‘
Olalia said they still do not know what will happen to the suspect. He said a team from the DMW will be sent to Kuwait to coordinate with their counterparts there to ensure justice will be served.
‘
The DMW official said authorities are also looking into the shortcomings committed by the local recruiter Catalyst International Manpower Services Co. and its foreign counterpart, Platinum International Office for Recruitment of Domestic Manpower, based in Kuwait.
‘
Olalia noted that there was negligence on the part of the recruiters as it failed to continuously monitor and provide assistance to the killed OFW.
‘
“If we find out that there is a ground, nagkaroon po sila ng pagkukulang sa (like there was lack of) monitoring then we will also impose the same sanction, pending the resolution of a recruitment violation kasi yung (because the) recruitment violation ‘pag napatunayan yan, hahantong po ‘yan sa (if proven will lead to) cancellation of the license of the agency,” he explained.
