Deaths, damage caused by bad weather rise — NDRRMC

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 21) — The death toll from the bad weather since Jan. 2 has climbed to 34, disaster response officials reported on Saturday.

In its 8 p.m. report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said 19 deaths have already been validated: nine from Zamboanga Peninsula, seven from Eastern Visayas, two from Northern Mindanao, and one from the Davao Region.

It added that eight people are still missing.

The NDRRMC also said a total of 462,517 families or 1,905,599 people across the country were affected by low pressure areas, the northeast monsoon or amihan, and the shear line that brought heavy rains and triggered floods and landslides.

Around 92,000 are still in evacuation centers, according to the agency.
