Metro Manila, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has acknowledged that his relationship with his sister, Senator Imee Marcos, is “non-existent,” with Malacañang confirming the two have not seen each other for three years.
Palace press officer Claire Castro said the president himself confirmed the strained ties following the senator’s earlier remarks.
“Sinabi rin po ng pangulo na ang kanilang relasyon ay non-existent,” Castro said.
[Translation: The president said that their relationship is non-existent.]
Castro added that the siblings have had no communication for years.
“Halos tatlong taon na po silang hindi nagkakausap at hindi nagkikita,” she said.
[Translation: They have not spoken to or seen each other for almost three years.]
Senator Imee Marcos earlier said she has distanced herself from family gatherings and has not been in close contact with the president.
“I don’t really go to the reunions, it’s not comfortable,” the senator said.
Castro said the president expressed disappointment over his sister’s recent remarks.
“Nadismaya ang pangulo sa mga naging pahayag ng kaniyang kapatid,” she said.
[Translation: The president was disappointed by the statements made by his sister.]
