DPWH seeks damages from bus company over EDSA-Ortigas fire

Metro Manila, Philippines – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has demanded payment from a bus company involved in the EDSA-Ortigas Interchange fire on April 24 for damages to the highway.

In a letter, the agency said LS8 Tourist Transport Corporation must cover the cost of repair, rehabilitation, and engineering interventions required to restore the bridge.

This is in line with the initial assessment conducted by DPWH personnel, which revealed concrete spalling, discoloration deposits underneath the highway, and exposure of reinforcing steel bars in localized areas of the affected span of the interchange.

Reimbursement may also be sought for additional costs that may be incurred upon completion of the repairs.

“This demand is made without prejudice to any administrative, civil, or criminal liabilities that may likewise arise from the incident,” it said.
