Metro Manila, Philippines – The water regulator has imposed penalties on west zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. over continued service interruptions, with affected consumers set to receive rebates.
The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS RO) said the listed company failed to meet its obligation to provide a 24-hour uninterrupted water supply at the required pressure.
It said more than 165,500 customers in parts of Las Piñas City, Muntinlupa City, Parañaque City, Imus City, and Bacoor City suffered from poor service.
These areas are under the Putatan and Poblacion water treatment plant supply zones.
The MWSS imposed a total penalty of over ₱54.28 million on the water concessionaire.
Instead of a direct fine, the amount will be returned to consumers through bill rebates.
Each affected household will get a reduction of ₱327.96 in the May billing.
The MWSS RO said the penalty is in line with rules against poor service delivery.
It also directed Maynilad to fast-track solutions to prevent further service interruptions.
A public information drive on the rebate program has been set for April 30, in coordination with the company.
