Metro Manila, Philippines – The De La Salle University Lady Spikers fought hard to hold off the Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws in five grueling sets, 25-17, 25-22, 23-25, 19-25, 15-10, to secure the first twice-to-beat advantage in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday, April 8, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Angel Canino exploded with 24 points including the game-winning attack in the fifth set for the Lady Spikers.
Now with an 11-0 win-loss record, La Salle is three wins away from sweeping the elimination round that would mean an outright ticket to the finals while forcing the other teams that are still in playoff contention to battle in a stepladder format.
Shevana Laput registered a team-high 25 points, while Amie Provido contributed 17 points for the Lady Spikers.
Lovely Lopez paced the Lady Tamaraws with 16 markers.
La Salle will next face the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles on April 11 at the FilOil Centre in San Juan City.
FEU, which dropped to 6-5 for a fourth place tie with the Adamson University Lady Falcons in the team standings, will try to bounce back against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons on April 12 at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion in Manila.
