Metro Manila, Philippines – A former Duterte administration official now heads the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)
President Bongbong Marcos has appointed former Cabinet secretary Melvin Matibag as top investigator replacing Lito Magno.
Matibag is the current secretary general of PDP Laban, the party of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Palace press officer Claire Castro did not elaborate on Matibag’s role, and only said the president appoints officials based on their capabilities.
“Nandoon po yung tiwala. Nakitaan po niya si Atty. Melvin Matibag na maari pagkatiwalaan,” said Castro.
[Translation: The trust is there. He saw Atty. Melvin Matibag as someone who can be entrusted with the position.]
