Flood control mess charges forthcoming – Remulla

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla held a press briefing at his office in Quezon City on Oct. 10.

Metro Manila, Philippines – Charges against government officials in flood control anomalies will be filed with the Sandiganbayan in the coming weeks, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said on Friday, Oct. 10.

Officials implicated in the scandal include lawmakers and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officers.“Ang gusto ko kasing start talaga, when we file the case, we’re ready for trial. Hindi pwedeng hindi para we can ask for a continuous trial, so there will be no delays in the hearings that we have to conduct, in the trials we have to conduct,” Remulla said in a press briefing.[Translation: What I want from the start, when we file the cases, we should be ready for trial. We cannot go unprepared so we can ask for a continuous trial, so there will be no delays in the hearings that we have to conduct, in the trials we have to conduct.]

The former justice chief said he is looking for the fastest process possible.

“We will look at the way we want the cases to appear when we file them,” he said.

Remulla said he will coordinate with the Sandiganbayan on the necessity of setting up a special division on flood control cases.
