
Metro Manila, Philippines — The De La Salle University Green Archers gave the promising University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers a reality check with an 88-67 thumping on Sunday in UAAP Season 87 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Mike Phillips was in his usual productive self for the Green Archers as he notched a double-double 12 points and 18 rebounds.
La Salle battled through an early 10-point deficit then controlled the tempo of the match the rest of the way to pick up its fifth win in six outings.
Four other players scored in double figures for the Green Archers — Vhoris Marasigan 11 points, Kevin Quiambao 10 points, Raven Gonzales 10 points, and JC Macalalag 10 points.
Meanwhile, Nic Cabanero and Forthsky Padrigao had 16 points and 15 points for the Growling Tigers, respectively.
UST dropped to 3-2 in the team standings.
La Salle will end its first round campaign against league-leading University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons on Oct. 6 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
