LIST: Where to go to commemorate 52nd anniversary of Martial Law declaration

Metro Manila, Philippines — A number of groups across the country have scheduled activities, including a candle lighting ceremony, to mark the 52nd anniversary of the martial law declaration.

President Ferdinand E. Marcos, father of the incumbent president, signed a proclamation on Sept. 21, 1972 that signaled his 14-year dictatorship. He announced it on television on Sept. 23.
Here’s a list of activities to commemorate what some historians said was a dark period in the nation’s history.

Nationwide candle lighting campaign

The Buhay Ang EDSA Campaign Network will be leading a nationwide candle lighting campaign, with at least 22 areas participating.
In Metro Manila, the assembly will be at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani in Quezon City at 6:30 p.m. The event will begin at 7:15 p.m.

The group has yet to announce venues for Bacoor, Cavite; Olongapo, Zambales; San Jose Del Monte City, Bulacan; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.
