
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 21) — The reported death toll due to severe flooding and landslides in the Davao Region has risen to 15, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Sunday.
Another death was logged in Davao de Oro, adding to the previously reported 12 deaths due to recent rainfall-induced landslides that hit the towns of Monkayo and Maragusan.
Five people also reportedly sustained injuries due to the effects of the bad weather, according to the NDRRMC’s latest situation report.
Meanwhile, two more deaths were reported in Davao City.
Of the latest tally, eight casualties have been validated by disaster management officials.
At least 349,000 individuals in the Davao Region were affected by the heavy rains, with over 3,600 families forced to take refuge in evacuation centers.
