Metro Manila, Philippines – Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala is back for the inaugural Philippine Women’s Open, a WTA 125 event at the newly renovated Rizal Memorial Tennis Center on Jan. 26-31.
The 20-year-old confirmed her participation in the historic tournament upon her arrival on Wednesday, Jan. 21, after ending her campaign at the 2026 Australian Open in Melbourne, Australia.
Marked as the first-ever WTA event in the country, Eala is hoping that fans will show up and support the event.
“Yes, I will be playing next week. I’m looking forward to it and I hope people can show up and support the Pinays,” Eala said.
“It’s a huge milestone in Philippine tennis, and I think it’s a big deal for all of us Filipina tennis players,” she added.
Eala, along with rising Filipina tennis player Tennielle Madis, will represent the country in the hard court. Organizers granted them wild card slots as they are the top-seeded female players in the country.
