2 reportedly dead due to ‘Ada’ – NDRRMC

Metro Manila, Philippines – Two people were reported dead after Tropical Storm Ada brought heavy rains and strong winds to various parts of the country, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Sunday, Jan. 18.

The NDRRMC said it is validating the deaths of two people who were buried under a boulder in the aftermath of a landslide in Matnog, Sorsogon on Saturday.

The rescue and retrieval operations took nearly five hours, Matnog’s disaster management office said.

Meanwhile, more than 7,000 families or over 10,000 people were affected by “Ada,” mostly from the Bicol region.

According to the NDRRMC, nearly 300 people in Tubay, Agusan del Norte are staying in evacuation centers. 

State weather bureau PAGASA warned heavy rains are still expected over Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes on Sunday.
