Alex Eala cruises past Malaysian foe to enter SEA Games semis

Metro Manila, Philippines – Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala asserted her dominance over Malaysia’s Shihomi Leong, 6-3, 6-1, in the women’s singles quarterfinals of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on Monday, Dec. 15, in Thailand.

The 20-year-old Eala fell to 1-3 early in the contest, but found her rhythm and won five straight games to win the set.

With the victory, Eala, who didn’t see action in the team event where the Philippines won a bronze medal, assured herself of at least another bronze entering the semifinals where she will face hometown bet Thasaporn Naklo.

Eala got a first-round bye in the women’s singles, being the top-ranked player in the tournament.
