Zamboanga City (CNN Philippines) — More than 2,000 teachers are set to undergo validation before they can serve in the 2016 elections.

Pedro Melchor Natividad, Division Schools superintendent of the Department of Education (DepEd), said his office is presently reviewing a list of 2,500 teachers in Zamboanga City’s east and west coasts before undergoing validation.

He said some of the names in the list reportedly are of personnel who are retired or are no longer affiliated with DepEd.

Natividad added, however, that most of those included in the list still have to undergo the required validation process.

The Commission on Elections is coordinating with the Division Schools Office for the special validation process for teachers.

Natividad asked the teachers to participate in the validation process since this is a requirement for them to be able to serve in the 2016 elections.
