Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The Jose Rizal University (JRU) Heavy Bombers notched a win in dominant fashion, 87-64, over the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals in their National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) clash on Friday (September 11) at the San Juan Arena.
Heavy Bomber Paolo Pontejos led the way with 21 points and three rebounds.
It was just not the Generals day as they started off the game on the wrong foot, scoring only 7 points in the opening quarter against JRU’s 25.
That period set the tone for the rest of the match as JRU coasted to an 87-64 victory.
In the second fixture of the Friday triple-header, the Mapua Cardinals held on to outlast the Lyceum Pirates, 70-66, to secure their fourth straight victory.
Mapua’s John Paul Nieles scored 10 markers.
The Cardinals led 58-45 heading into the final period of regulation, but the Pirates did not go down easy as they fought back to come within three with only 3:34 left to play.
But Lyceum came up short as Mapua held on for the win.
