Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Rain or Shine Elasto Painters sent seldom-used bruiser Jervy Cruz to GlobalPort Batang Pier for Jewel Ponferrada and a 2015 second round pick.
The trade was approved by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) on Tuesday (August 18).
Picked fourth overall by the Elasto Painters in the 2009 PBA Rookie Draft, Cruz will join GlobalPort’s young core bannered by the deadly backcourt tandem of Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle.
Cruz, the 2007 University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Most Valuable Player (MVP) from University of Santo Tomas, will also reunite with his college coach, Pido Jarencio.
Cruz and Jarencio won a UAAP title in 2006 following a classic series where the Growling Tigers pulled the rug from under the stacked Ateneo de Manila University led by JC Intal and Doug Kramer.
The 28-year-old slotman will boster a squad that finished fourth in the Governors’ Cup last season.
