PBA: Meralco demolishes Talk ‘N Text for 2nd straight win

Sean Anthony sparked Meralco’s attack with 24 points.

(CNN Philippines) — Meralco Bolts simply did everything right from the get-go to demolish the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters, 119-85, in their Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup encounter at the Mall of Asia Arena Tuesday (June 2).

Import Andre Emmett and Sean Anthony sparked Meralco’s attack with 36 and 24 points, respectively, and helped the team score its second win in a row.

Meralco now holds a 4-3 win-loss record.

“It’s really nice to build a momentum and establish a winning streak. From start to finish, we displayed good defense and offense,” said Meralco coach Norman Black.

“I’m really happy with the teamwork and the progress of the team. Now we just have to continue to build on it.”

Meralco rolled on to a scintillating start, building a 17-4 lead in the opening quarter that never relinquished.

A rejuvenated Talk ‘N Text showed signs of resistance in the second half and trimmed the gap to just 10, before Meralco went in overdrive anew to wrap up the penultimate period at 83-69.

But the beating didn’t end there.

The lead ballooned to 27 after Gary David, Anthony, and Emmett fired long bombs late in the final quarter that ultimately put the game away, 104-77.

Meralco devoured Talk ‘N Text during that quarter, 36-16.

The Tropang Texters, paced by import Steffphon Pettigrew’s 21 points, fell to a pedestrian 3-3 card.
