Cebu City (CNN Philippines) — Initial findings showed that a failure in the sprinkler system caused a part of the cinema’s ceiling to collapse, injuring nine people, mall officials said on Tuesday (June 16).
A statement released by Ayala Center Cebu at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday said that the sprinkler system at Cinema 5 released water, which caused the acoustic boards to fall.
Five of those injured are now in the hospital awaiting medical clearance while the rest did not need hospitalization, the statement added.

The Mabolo Police Station, under the Cebu City Police Office, is also set to investigate the cause of the incident.
