Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) – A Filipino working in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has been infected with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) and is now undergoing treatment in a hospital there.
Assistant Secretary Charles Jose, spokesperson of the Department of Foreign Affairs, confirmed this on Monday (June 15).
But he assured the public that it was an isolated case, saying: “The incidence of MERS-CoV in Saudi Arabia has already significantly decreased. “
The worker, whose name he didn’t disclose, was infected last May by his wife, who is working in a hospital in Riyadh.
“The Filipino is in a hospital being treated and hopefully he will be getting well soon,” Jose said.
There are over a million Filipinos working in Saudi Arabia.
