(CNN Philippines) — A member of the Philippine Army surrendered after more than three hours of taking 32 bus passengers hostage on Friday (May 29) in Del Gallego, Camarines Sur.
According to the AFP’s Southern Luzon Command (Solcom), the suspect identified as Corporal Rene Prajele, turned himself in around 4:30 p.m. along with his standard-issue M-16 rifle.
A crisis management team, composed of the police and the military, was formed to negotiate with the suspect.
Capt. Marjorie Panesa of the 9th Infantry Division said Prajele gave himself up to brigade commander, Col. Amador Tabuga Jr.
All passengers were unharmed.
Based on initial reports, marital problems prompted Prajele to seize control of a Peñafrancia bus plying in Barangay Cumaday-caday.
