(CNN Philippines) – Mary Jane Veloso’s hopes remained alive on Monday (April 27) following Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s promise that he will consult with the attorney general on the legal issues surrounding her case.
Secretary Edwin Lacierda, presidential spokesperson, said on Monday that Widodo personally assured President Benigno Aquino III that he would speak with the attorney general on Veloso’s case.
The two leaders met at the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Monday morning where Aquino appealed to Widodo for “humanitarian consideration” on the eve of Veloso’s execution.
According to Lacierda, Widodo was sympathetic as he promised to resume the conversation with Aquino later today.
